John
Alexander was born in Atlanta, Georgia in November of 1950.
His professional background has remained in the electrical
industry in one form or another. He’s been an Aircraft
Environmental Specialist in the Air Force and served in Viet
Nam, a locomotive electrician for Burlington Northern, and
a utility lineman. In the mid-80s, Alexander was inspired by
the writings of futurist Alvin
Toffler, whose famous works, Future Shock, Third Wave,
and Powershift announced the coming age of technology and information.
As a result, Alexander decided to make a career change and
learn how to best serve the interest of business through the
advancement of media and information processes.
Today,
Alexander holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University
of LaVerne and an M.A. in Educational Multimedia from California
State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly) in Pomona, California.
He has over 20 years of service in the electrical
power industry and develops web site resources, video, safety and training programs, and interactive media for his company's Grid
Operations organization.
In
2003, Alexander produced a 30-minute video documentary in
East Africa for Empowering
Lives International. In November 2005, he traveled back
to Africa to continue the story of how ELI is changing the
lives of many orphaned children in Kenya, Tanzania, and Sudan.
Alexander’s
camera is never far away. He’s traveled with his wife,
Heather, and friends, bicycling through Austria, Germany,
Slovakia, and Hungary. Some of his pictures can be seen in
the Media Bus Photography section.
And though the still camera is Alexander’s first passion,
he does extensive work in video and loves both the production
and post-production side of the video medium. He shoots in
Hi-Def, mini-DV, and SVHS to meet the wide range of client
needs.
